Linesperson Engineering task
Students are asked to use information presented to them to calculate the total amount of line needed to cover a particular distance over the ground using Pythagoras' Theorem.
After completing this activity students will:
- Understand the need to use approximations in certain calculations.
- Understand how to find the length of the hypotenuse in a right angle triangle.
- Understand the need for regulations for overhead lines.
Answers for Engineering challenge: Linesperson
Note: Students can get help by clicking on
or going to the Help manual.
Step 1:
b= 1.2 m
c = 7.5 m
b² = 56.25
c² = 1.44
a= 7.6
Length of cable between the two poles = 15.2 m
Step 2:
Length of cable needed to complete the job = 1520 m
